Referee Decision in Al-Ittihad Match
The match between Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad and UAE's Shabab Al-Ahli in the AFC Champions League was marked by a refereeing controversy after a potential penalty opportunity was turned into a goal. Shabab Al-Ahli scored the opening goal in the seventh minute following a solo effort by Joelmer Bali. After video assistant referee (VAR) review, the referee confirmed the goal's validity and refused to award a penalty to Al-Ittihad, asserting that there was no foul. This controversy occurred ahead of upcoming matches: Al-Ittihad versus Al-Shabab in the Saudi Pro League on October 16, and Shabab Al-Ahli against Al Ain in the UAE on October 17.
