UK PM discloses secret City meetings
British Prime Minister Andy Burnham revealed details of his meetings with the Emirati owners of Manchester City Club, amid the "Sham Contracts" scandal that accused the club of inflating revenues and underreporting costs by more than £900 million ($1.19 billion). Burnham confirmed that he held one significant meeting in 2021 during his tenure as Mayor of Greater Manchester, and stated that his contacts were limited, in response to political criticism demanding the disclosure of all meetings related to the case. These developments come amidst a broad political and sporting controversy over potential financial corruption involving one of the Premier League's biggest clubs.
