Cap Considers Reversing Africa Cup Decision
A conflict between the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the international (FIFA) and European (UEFA) unions is sparking a debate about the future of the Africa Cup of Nations. CAF had announced in December 2025 that the tournament would be held every four years instead of biennially, aiming to bring more stability to European clubs and reduce the absence of African players from their clubs. However, discussions have emerged about a conflict of interests among the international parties, with some believing that certain decisions were made to cater to UEFA and European clubs' demands. As tensions between FIFA and UEFA escalate, CAF may reconsider its decision to hold the tournament every four years, reverting to the previous system. The CAF president has emphasized that safeguarding African football's interests remains a priority, although the final stance has not yet been settled.
