Arab star's unusual player rebellion
In the past decade, there have been instances of football players rebelling against their clubs and national teams. Some of these incidents stemmed from minor disagreements or excessive jealousy, revealing the fragility of some stars' egos. Notable examples include: Fernando Redondo’s dispute with the coach over his hairstyle before the 1998 World Cup; Hatem Ben Arfa’s strike actions during his spells at Marseille and Hull City; William Gallas threatening to score an own goal or get sent off to force his departure from Chelsea; Carlos Tevez’s suspension from Manchester City in the 2011-2012 season amid controversy over his willingness to play; and the birthday cake crisis involving Yaya Touré and Manchester City, which exposed a childish side of the conflict despite a historic season for the team. The period also witnessed players missing national team duties due to strange personal reasons, such as Amr Zaki refusing to return from Egypt after attending a birthday party. The causes of these incidents range from strange personal behavior and excessive jealousy to mental fragility, despite the players’ great talent.
