Manchester City on Champions League Relegation
Manchester City faces the possibility of being barred from participating in the Champions League next season, despite qualifying on sporting grounds, if they are found guilty of financial misconduct and inflated financial reporting by the independent panel of the English league. The panel upheld charges including exaggeration of sponsorship revenues and hiding expenses amounting to approximately £920 million. If found guilty and subjected to sanctions such as points deductions or suspension from the league, the core requirements for European licensing remain unclear, as UEFA licensing depends on the financial status of clubs. This could lead to preventing their participation in European competitions, even though they are currently competing in the Champions League. If they win the title, they would automatically qualify for the next season. UEFA is expected to launch an independent investigation if violations are confirmed, which could further increase the likelihood of their permanent exclusion from European competitions.
