Italian football guardianship and Malagò as commissioner
The Italian Olympic Committee has imposed its guardianship over the Italian Football Federation, keeping Giovanni Malago in his position as the interim special commissioner. This came after controversy surrounding his election as president in June of last year. A settlement was reached that allows for an investigation, with political objectives linked to the rebuilding process of Italian football, which has recently struggled with failing to qualify for major tournaments. New elections are scheduled to be held by the end of January 2027. Meanwhile, Malago continues his interim management of the federation; he is a prominent figure in Italian sports and is currently working on selecting a new national team coach and handling important matters, including organizing Euro 2032.
