Donis confronts historic test
The Saudi national football team won the Gulf Cup of Arab States for the third time in its history, after a series of unsuccessful attempts by previous coaches since 2009. The Green (Saudi team) reached the final for the sixth time since the tournament's inception in 1970, and five times since the adoption of the two-group system in 2004, but had not secured the title until now. The Greek coach, Georgios Donis, is leading the team in the final of the 27th edition against the United Arab Emirates, after achieving four consecutive victories without conceding a goal. Saudi Arabia faces the UAE at the Al-Inma Stadium, aiming to claim its first title since 2002, with the last victory in 1994, in a historic achievement for Saudi Arabia that is expected to enhance its continental standing.
