Next Gulf Cup of Arabia location and date
Iraq is preparing to host the 28th edition of the Gulf Cooperation Council Championship, "Gulf 28," which will take place from December 9 to 22, 2028. The country was awarded the right to host the tournament on September 28, 2026, by unanimous decision of the Gulf Cooperation Council Federation. This marks the third time Iraq has hosted the tournament, following editions in 1979 in Baghdad and 2023 in Basra. Hosting the championship is seen as an opportunity to bring the tournament back to Iraqi stadiums after five years since Basra hosted the previous edition. Attention is now focused on choosing the host cities, with Basra’s governor suggesting that one of the tournament groups be held at the Sports City, while the other group will be hosted in Dhi Qar Province.
