Twitter reactions to October 7 badges in Israel Ireland match
The article focused on the reactions of the Israeli national team players during a match against Ireland, which was held in commemoration of the victims of Palestinians and Israelis during the events of October 7, 2023. The black armband worn by the players served as a reminder of historical Israeli massacres, such as the Deir Yassin and Tantura massacres, as well as other incidents over the decades. Activists also linked the commemoration of the October 7 casualties to the impact it had on Gaza, pointing out that more than 21,000 Palestinian children have been killed during the current war. They called for not separating the remembrance of Palestinian victims from the archaeological events. The incident sparked political and sports controversy, with the Irish Football Association deciding to hold the match without spectators as a protest against Israel’s practices in Gaza, amid calls for boycott and accusations of politicization within the sports context.
