Ireland players condemn Zionist actions
The match between the Irish national team and the Israeli entity, held behind closed doors in Serbia, highlights Ireland's ongoing protests against Israeli actions. Irish players stood with their heads bowed and refused to shake hands with the Israeli players, in response to the latter's use of black armbands in memory of the victims of the October 7, 2023 attacks. Meanwhile, Israeli players wore the same armbands. This stance reflects a growing Irish solidarity with the Palestinians and comes amid protests and rejection within Irish football, as well as media exclusion from technical coverage. The Israeli team currently sits at the bottom of the group with one point, while Austria leads with 7 points.
