Ronaldo's absence and Portugal's football economy
Cristiano Ronaldo's departure from the Portuguese national team camp following his disagreement with coach Jorge Jesus has caused a significant economic crisis threatening the future of Portuguese football, especially in its financial and marketing aspects. His absence has led to a decline in the value of the national product, decreased attendance at matches, and reduced sponsorship deals. The attendance losses in Asian matches with Al-Nassr Saudi Arabia reached 90%. Assessments show that his absence harms the country's reputation and necessitates the urgent adoption of a transitional strategy to ensure the sustainability of sports exports and generate profits, with an unprecedented political intervention from the Prime Minister to contain the crisis.
