Turkish Union Targets 450 Officials in Betting Case
The Turkish Football Federation has referred around 450 club officials, including top officials, to the Disciplinary Committee as part of an investigation into illegal betting. This coincided with the suspension of the head of the Turkish referees' committee and six other individuals on charges of corruption. The list includes officials from clubs such as Trabzonspor, Beşiktaş, Galatasaray, and Fenerbahçe, and it has been verified that they placed bets while holding their positions over the past five years. The investigation focuses on the influence of the accused on referee rankings, exams, and match appointments through manipulation and intimidation. This comes within the context of broader inquiries related to betting scandals, which previously led to the arrest of 149 referees.
