Trienko Seeks European Success
The Portuguese friends Francisco Trincão and Nuno Santos have gone from being teammates who lifted the European Under-19 Championship to rivals, as they face each other on Saturday in Pretoria as part of the Africa-Asia-Pacific Cup in the 2026 Club World Cup. Their relationship began in 2018 with the Portugal Under-19 national team, where they achieved the European title together after an exciting final, with Trincão emerging as one of the standout stars of that edition. Later, their club careers took different paths, with Trincão moving between several clubs including Barcelona and Wolverhampton before joining Al Ahly in 2023, while Santos played for Benfica, Charlotte FC, and Mamelodi Sundowns, with his contract running until 2027. The match highlights the rivalry between former teammates now competing as opponents, blending their historic connection with a desire to win in the Club World Cup.
