Southers' third global run
The article discusses the participation of South African team Mamelodi Sundowns in the Club World Cup. This is their third experience at the global tournament level after qualifying by winning the CAF Champions League in 2016 and 2025. In 2016, their first appearance began with a 0-2 loss to Japanese team Kashima Antlers, and they finished their campaign in fifth place. In 2025, the team achieved a historic victory over Ulsan 1-0 but was eliminated in the knockout stage after losing to Borussia Dortmund, ultimately finishing third in their group. Now, they are preparing to face Al-Ahly in the 2026 Intercontinental Cup, after winning the CAF Champions League in 2025-2026, and they hope to deliver a performance worthy of representing Africa on the international stage.
