German Federation Calls for Blatter Step Down
The Vice President of the German Football Association, Hans-Joachim Watzke, called for the resignation of Gianni Infantino, the President of FIFA, accusing him of several criticisms related to his decisions and management style of FIFA. He pointed out that Infantino personally launched the FIFA Award for Peace, and that he made surprising decisions without informing the involved parties, particularly regarding the case of World Cup player Folarin Balogun and the withdrawal of his suspension. Watzke also criticized the proposed creation of a new commercial company aimed at opening the door for investors, which was canceled just days after its proposal. He considered that Infantino's management lacks transparency and trust, and that support for him has significantly declined amid calls to end his presidency. Currently, Infantino is the sole candidate for the FIFA presidential elections scheduled for March 2027.
