Gulf Cup: A Legacy of Unity
The Gulf Cup of Nations is one of the most prominent regional tournaments, launched in 1970 in Bahrain, with the aim of fostering closer ties among the national teams of the region and organizing a regular competition that brings them together. The inaugural edition featured four participating countries: Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar, with Kuwait taking home the title. The tournament was initially held every two years, with the team that won three times retaining the cup permanently. Throughout its history, the tournament has experienced changes in scheduling and format, with several countries securing the title, including Kuwait, which has won ten titles out of 26 editions, Iraq with four titles, as well as successes by Qatar, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia. New teams have emerged, and the teams have developed over time. The most recent edition was held in Kuwait in 2025, where Bahrain claimed its second title.
