Crocodiles pose threat to Brisbane Olympics rowing
Approval has been granted to host rowing competitions and powerboat races on the Fitzroy River in Rochampton, Australia, during the 2032 Brisbane Olympics, despite the presence of approximately 500 saltwater crocodiles, natural obstacles such as bends, currents, and drought. It has been determined that the conditions are considered safe according to a technical assessment, with safety measures including halting races upon sighting crocodiles. Despite controversy surrounding the appropriateness of the location and the impact of natural conditions on fairness and competition, the government defended the decision with a comprehensive site evaluation. However, risks such as flooding remain a concern, and crocodiles are expected to continue being part of the scene, with warning procedures in place during the races.
