La Liga Integrity Test Focuses on Connected Ball Technology
The connected ball technology in the Spanish league began to have a direct impact on referees' decisions starting from the 2026-2027 season. It helped determine the exact moment the ball contacts a player, leading to the disallowance of goals that could have affected match outcomes. In a famous incident, the referee disallowed a Real Madrid goal after reviewing the video technology, which showed an offside at the start of the attack, thanks to the wireless sensors inside the ball that accurately detect its position and contact time. This technology is the first of its kind at the professional league level and is now fully employed in La Liga competitions. It enhances the accuracy of refereeing decisions, especially in offside calls, hand touches, and pre-corner touches, aiming to reduce errors and ensure greater fairness in matches.
