Unusual Rituals for Celebrating Victories
The article highlights a collection of the world's strangest sports victory rituals, ranging from eating grass, drinking milk, biting pieces of basketball nets, imitating Olympic rings with tattoos, jumping into swimming pools, to cutting down the basketball hoops. Among the most prominent of these customs is Novak Djokovic eating a piece of grass from the Wimbledon courts after each trophy since 2011, winners of the Indianapolis 500 drinking milk provided to them after their victory, and athletes tattooing the Olympic rings as a symbol of achievement. Additionally, there is the celebration of a piece of the basketball net after winning, a well-known tradition of the champion jumping into a water pool during a golf tournament, and the offering of a turkey leg as a Thanksgiving gift in the United States. The reasons behind these rituals vary, from expressing joy and celebrating success to emphasizing that some of these customs have become part of the identity of championships and sports in general.
