Dutch player scores first
The organizing committee for referees at the Gulf Cup Federation is set to appoint Dutch referee Dany Makkelie to officiate the opening match between the Saudi and Kuwaiti teams, following the apology of English referee Michael Oliver due to delayed notification and travel arrangements. Makkelie was chosen in exchange for a monetary reward of ten thousand dollars for each participating referee, with the match officiating fee nearing the twenty-four thousand dollar mark, which is the same as the reward for the 2026 World Cup referee. Additionally, Saudi referee Mohammed Al-Huwais was replaced by Ahmed Al-Tares due to injury. The Saudi officials team also includes referees Abdul Rahim Al-Shammari and Saad Al-Subaie.
