Southeast Asia issues smoke haze alert
Ongoing fires in Indonesia have caused parts of Southeast Asia to be covered in toxic smoke haze, leading to the declaration of the highest alert level in the region by the Regional Climate and Fire Agency. The third level of alert for the ASEAN region has been activated, which is the highest, due to dense smoke coverage ranging from moderate to severe, with continued dry weather and wind gusts spreading the haze to neighboring countries such as Malaysia and Singapore. This has resulted in a sharp increase in respiratory issues and school closures. Singapore topped the global pollution ranking as the most polluted city, followed by Kuala Lumpur and Baghdad.
