Iraqi Group Declares Friday as Ramadan Start
An Iraqi group led by Sheikh Thamer Maluh Al-Faiz announced that the first day of the blessed month of Ramadan will be Friday, October 16, 2026, based on the "Muhammadi calendar," which is based on the solar movement. This contradicts the Islamic consensus, which relies on the sighting of the moon or the legitimate lunar astronomical calculations, both of which religious authorities and fatwa jurisconsults across all Islamic schools of thought consider to be correct.
