Iraq Ends International ISIS Coalition
The international forces led by the United States have concluded their mission in Iraq after 12 years of combating the terrorist organization ISIS. Baghdad has affirmed that its security forces are now capable of confronting security threats on their own. The coalition has been gradually withdrawing since 2024, and the number of remaining troops in the Kurdistan Region before the final withdrawal on September 30 was zero, as efforts were made to strengthen the Iraqi army's capabilities, develop national intelligence and aviation agencies, with the aim of enhancing Iraq's sovereignty and ensuring ISIS does not return. Additionally, relations between Iraq and the coalition have evolved toward bilateral security partnerships, while the government continues to address the issue of weapons outside state authority and armed factions that insist on retaining their arms amid the departure of foreign forces.
