Jordanian Abu Hussein's Death Rumors circulate
Major General Abdel Rahman Hussein Al-Khatib, known as "Abu Hussein the Jordanian," commander of the 90th Division in the Syrian Army, was killed by his escorts according to reports from social media. He was one of the most prominent Jordanian military leaders to join Jabaht al-Nusra (later Hayat Tahrir al-Sham) in Syria, where he held significant leadership positions and participated in battles against other factions in Idlib and the countryside of Aleppo. After the establishment of the Syrian Armed Forces, he was appointed to lead the new Republican Guard and was closely allied with Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharq. He was heavily relied upon for planning and executing military operations. His death is considered a loss to the ranks of forces loyal to the Syrian government, while the circumstances of his killing remain unclear.
