Guardian: British police data at risk of foreign hacking
The British newspaper "The Guardian" revealed the existence of massive amounts of sensitive law enforcement data stored on cloud platforms belonging to Microsoft in the United Kingdom. This data includes criminal records, testimonies, and internal information related to more than 40 police devices. Investigations have shown that the decision to adopt the Microsoft Azure platform for storage dates back to 2017, despite security experts raising concerns about the risks involved. The British government expressed reservations regarding the potential access of foreign entities or the U.S. government to this sensitive data. Microsoft affirms that it does not grant governments direct or unrestricted access to the data, although the investigation indicates that there is a possibility of data leakage beyond UK borders, which poses a threat to the privacy and security of sensitive law enforcement information.
