The Nations Championship begins in Dublin on Friday, replacing this year’s autumn tours with a competition pairing northern and southern hemisphere teams before a final weekend at Twickenham. The tournament, developed by World Rugby, the Six Nations and Sanzaar, aims to generate revenue but has drawn criticism for prioritising television and commercial returns over competitive integrity, player welfare and travelling fans. England, for example, must travel 25,000 miles for three matches in three weeks across three continents.
