WNBA excludes Kanter and White as men
The WNBA has clarified that only women are eligible to play in the league, explicitly stating that former NBA players Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White, who identify as women, are ineligible because they are men. WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert responded to congressional inquiries, emphasizing that identifying as a woman does not change biological facts and that eligibility is determined based on gender, though the league has not provided a clear definition of "woman." Kanter Freedom and White plan to enter the 2027 WNBA draft, asserting their gender identity, prompting ongoing debate about criteria for women's sports eligibility.
