UK borrowing reaches £24.5bn amid budget plans
UK government borrowing increased to £24.5 billion in September, driven by rising inflation and higher debt interest payments, the highest September figure since records began. Total government debt has reached an estimated £3 trillion, and public sector net borrowing for the year is £97.8 billion, slightly lower than last year but above forecasts. Finance Minister John Healey is preparing to announce his upcoming budget amid these fiscal pressures.
