Council housing miracle wins award
The article highlights the winning of the RIBA Stirling Prize by Lion Green Road in Croydon, recognized as the best new building in the UK. Designed by Mary Duggan Architects, the project features 157 flats on a challenging site, with a focus on high-quality housing that preserves green spaces and community spaces. Despite initial objections and a tight budget, the development exemplifies council-led, well-designed housing, contrasting with typical suburban models and standing as a rare example of exemplary council housing in the UK.
