BBC halts The Archers recordings in Birmingham after 75 years
The BBC will cease recording The Archers in Birmingham for the first time in its 75-year history, canceling plans to build a new theatre at the Tea Factory in Digbeth due to cost-cutting measures. Although the production team still plans to move to the new Birmingham hub in 2028, the show will now be recorded at existing UK studios or private facilities in the West Midlands, raising concerns about potential impacts on the show's creativity and connection to Birmingham. The decision reflects broader BBC budget reductions and may lead to more production shifts outside London.
