Tories overestimate net zero cost by nearly £500bn
Kemi Badenoch’s Conservative policy document overestimated the cost of achieving net zero emissions in the UK by nearly £500 billion, citing a figure of £957 billion. The error resulted from double-counting in a climate committee spreadsheet, with the actual estimated cost around £478 billion. The Climate Change Committee’s recent analysis now estimates the cost at approximately £110 billion.
