180,000 giant tortoises on Seychelles island
A survey on Aldabra Atoll in Seychelles found that the population of the endangered giant tortoises has reached a record high of approximately 180,000, the largest in history. This growth results from decades of conservation efforts, including establishing the area as a strict nature reserve and UNESCO site. Researchers emphasize the need for continued vigilance amid threats from climate change and invasive predators to sustain the population.
