Rui Pinto to exit Portugal over safety concerns
Rui Pinto, the whistleblower behind Football Leaks, plans to leave Portugal due to the termination of his witness protection program, citing serious death threats and the threat of an assassination attempt. His lawyers are appealing the decision, which they say leaves him more vulnerable than since 2020, and have described the move as a failure to respect the rule of law. Pinto has established a GoFundMe to support his safety as he prepares to relocate.
