Effective ban on disabled leaving UK
Disabled people in the UK are being prevented from traveling abroad due to inconsistent local care policies, with some care providers restrict or refuse international trips despite existing funding or personal expenses. MPs and peers have called for national guidelines to ensure disabled individuals’ right to travel and support, highlighting that allowing travel does not increase taxpayer costs. The restrictions are partly influenced by bureaucratic practicalities and underlying prejudices, reflecting ongoing paternalistic attitudes that limit independence and equal opportunities for disabled people.
