Drivers bypassing roadwork closures risk lives
National Highways has reported over 400 incidents this year involving drivers deliberately entering restricted roadwork areas to avoid delays, posing safety risks to workers and themselves. Most incursions aim to find shortcuts, with about 30 occurring weekly across England’s major roads, and some incidents have led to motorway closures and delays. The agency emphasized that such reckless behavior endangers lives, including that of a person who died this year, and highlighted the importance of respecting road closures for safety.
