Quotes from Socrates to Freud
The article discusses a conceptual journey from Socratic Greek philosophy to modern psychology through Freud, illustrating how both have contributed to understanding the human psyche. It highlights the importance of the Socratic dialectical method, which focuses on questioning the self and discovering internal truths, contrasting with Freud's approach that analyzes the unconscious and internal conflicts to interpret behavior and mental illnesses. The article also clarifies that each of them aimed to explore inner motives, with a fundamental difference in the dominant force within humans: the conscious mind in Socratic philosophy versus instinct and the unconscious in Freud. It emphasizes that understanding the mind and achieving self-development begin with exploring the deepest inner layers, concluding with the importance of wisdom and knowledge derived from both approaches for attaining psychological balance.
