American Airlines warns fares may stay high
American Airlines anticipates sustained high fuel prices will keep airfares elevated, with the company projecting deeper losses in 2026 due to surging fuel costs. Despite a 19% increase in third-quarter revenue, fuel expenses rose 67.5%, adding $1.9 billion in costs, and future fuel prices are expected to remain high into the fourth quarter. As a result, the airline plans to slow its network growth in 2027.
