Judge Rules Leonard's Staff Not Liable for Cookie Death
Stew Leonard’s CEO and employees cannot be personally sued for the death of ballet dancer Orla Baxendale, who suffered an allergic reaction after eating a mislabeled peanut cookie at a Connecticut social gathering. The Connecticut Superior Court ruled that wrongful death claims cannot target individual executives under the Connecticut Product Liability Act, but legal action against the company and its suppliers will continue. Baxendale died from anaphylactic shock after consuming the unlabeled cookie containing peanuts, which her family alleges was due to negligence in proper ingredient labeling.
