Meta ordered to pay $25bn over data claims
Meta has been ordered to pay a $25 billion fine by a federal judge in New Mexico for intentionally misleading the public about how it handled user data, marking the largest penalty against the company. The ruling follows a two-week trial that found senior executives, including Mark Zuckerberg, coordinated efforts to deceive users, with the original calculated penalty reaching $219 billion before being reduced. This is part of a series of legal fines and settlements Meta has faced this year related to data privacy and business practices.
