City commission delays approval for $8B park casino
New York City officials have deferred approval of the proposed $8 billion Metropolitan Park casino and resort in Queens, which would be built on parkland next to Citi Field. The project, led by Hard Rock and Mets owner Steve Cohen, faces community opposition over concerns about its impact on public space, local ecosystems, and potential societal harms. While supporters highlight economic benefits and job creation, opponents emphasize the preservation of public parkland and the risks associated with a casino development. The Public Design Commission tabled the matter after extensive review and community input.
