Mahmoud Khalil urges faster immigration rulings
The U.S. Supreme Court is being asked to review a case involving the detention of Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil, who was held for over three months without judicial review after participating in pro-Palestinian protests. Khalil's legal challenge concerns a federal appeals court ruling that limits the ability of courts to assess the legality of immigration detentions until cases are fully considered by immigration authorities. The government argues its actions were lawful and criticizes Khalil's activities, while Khalil remains free pending the Supreme Court’s decision.
