WNBA teams skip anthem despite rules
During Game 1 of the WNBA Finals, both the Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries left the court before the national anthem and returned seconds after it ended. The league’s rules require players and staff to stand along the sidelines during the anthem, but neither team explained their absence, and the WNBA has not clarified its expectations for Game 2. The teams' reasons for their pregame routine remain unclear, and no disciplinary actions have been announced.
