California couple investigated in child cruelty case
A Chinese-American couple is facing charges after authorities uncovered that they kept 21 children confined inside their California mansion, where they allegedly subjected them to abuse and restricted their outdoor activities. The children were reportedly kept in makeshift classrooms, learning limited subjects, and were subjected to beatings if they misbehaved. Police found the children scared to go outside when rescued and uncovered evidence of neglect, including cremated remains of a deceased child. The couple has been charged with child endangerment and related crimes, with bail set at $20 million, citing concerns about flight risk.
