Zelensky criticizes Russia sanctions pause
The article reports that recent decisions by President Trump to pause or waive sanctions on Russia, including a recent order exempting Russia from sanctions law and buying Russian diesel, drew sharp criticism from U.S. lawmakers. Critics accuse the moves of undermining efforts to pressure Russia over its invasion of Ukraine, especially as Russia intensified attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, causing power outages and casualties. Ukrainian President Zelensky condemned the sanctions waiver, emphasizing its negative impact on Ukraine’s defense and energy sector, highlighting the ongoing conflict’s escalation amid U.S. policy shifts.
