Five baby orangutans left alone in India
Five orphaned baby orangutans, believed to have originated from Sumatra, were found in eastern India after being trafficked illegally through Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, and into India. Their capture likely involved the killing of their mothers, with the infants subjected to harsh conditions during transit before being abandoned in Odisha. Conservationists warn that the illegal wildlife trade, fueled by high demand and inadequate enforcement, continues to threaten critically endangered orangutans and underscores the need for international cooperation to combat trafficking networks.
