IKEA adopts driverless trucks
Kodiak AI plans to operate driverless long-haul trucks transporting IKEA products along a 219-mile stretch of I-45 between Dallas and Houston. The company has accumulated over 40,000 hours of commercial autonomous driving without a safety observer aboard and expects to launch fully driverless service by the end of 2026. The system is designed with safety features, redundancy, and remote monitoring, ensuring the truck can safely stop or respond to emergencies if issues arise, even without direct human control.
