Pope Leo Criticizes Death Penalty Before Livestream
Pope Leo XIV, opposing the death penalty on grounds of human dignity, condemned the U.S. Pentagon's plans to livestream the upcoming execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, who was convicted of the 2009 Fort Hood shooting. The plan, announced recently, has sparked criticism from religious leaders, lawmakers, and officials, citing concerns that public executions are inhumane and promote a culture of death. The execution is scheduled for December, marking the first military firing squad execution since 1945.
