Massachusetts ex-cop faces trial over pregnant lover's death
The trial of former police officer Matthew Farwell began over the death of Sandra Birchmore, found dead in her Boston-area apartment. Prosecutors allege Farwell exploited Birchmore, who was a minor at the start of their sexual relationship, and killed her to prevent her from exposing their illicit relationship. Defense attorneys claim Birchmore died by suicide due to her mental health struggles, and that there is no conclusive evidence linking Farwell to her death.
