Police in Kingston visited an individual struggling with drug addiction to offer support and connect him with treatment, exemplifying a compassionate approach to addressing substance abuse. This method, pioneered in Massachusetts and spread nationwide through the Police Assisted Addiction and Recovery Initiative (PAARI), emphasizes medical treatment over incarceration, resulting in thousands of people being connected to recovery services and naloxone.
