Russia must clarify lab death details
A laboratory worker in Russia reportedly died after breaking a tube containing pneumonic plague bacteria, prompting concerns about laboratory safety and historical ties to biological weapons programs. Authorities have placed contacts in isolation, but details remain unclear amid Russia's denial of safety breaches and its history of military-biological research. Experts call for international investigation, enhanced disease surveillance, development of broad-spectrum countermeasures, and preparedness measures to prevent future outbreaks.
